Annie Potts on 'Two and a Half Men': Another reason to say no to rehab

Annie Potts showed up last night as Judith’s blowsy, just-out-of-rehab mom on Two and a Half Men (as first reported by our own Michael Ausiello). And I have to say: How great is it to have such go-to comedy pros who keep sticking it out in the godforsaken Hollywood biz? I’ve loved this lady since she was answering phones at Ghostbusters, and though she hasn’t had a regular gig on a hit show since Designing Women (unless you count Lifetime’s Any Day Now), she’s been consistently chipping away at guest spots and movie roles ever since.

Charlie Sheen Hints 'Two and a Half Men' Retirement

While attending Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20, Charlie Sheen stopped for a quick word with Extra, to whom he hints a retirement. The actor said cryptically that his days as Charlie Harper on "Two and a Half Men" maybe over after his contract with the studio reaches the end.

"I got five kids, I've got amazing wife. There is life outside of show business," Sheen said on the red carpet. He added further, "It's been a great run. This is my last contract year, so maybe it's up to CBS and Warner Bros." The half-hour comedy show is airing its seventh season and thus it would be the final season for Sheen if he indeed quits.

Charlie Sheen is married to Brooke Mueller who gave birth to their twin sons last year. He also has two daughters from his failed marriage to Denise Richards and another one from girlfriend Paula Profit.

"Two and a Half Men" was one of the winners at the Emmys. Jon Cryer, who plays the other Harper brother, won Outstanding Supporting Actor in Comedy. Sheen, however, lost to Alec Baldwin from "30 Rock" in nabbing the Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy.

'Two and a Half Men' to be one man down

I've made no secret of my dislike for "Two and a Half Men" -- and Jon Cryer's Emmy win on Sunday didn't help any -- but even I was surprised to hear that one of the show's stars is thinking about quitting the show.

During an interview with Extra, Charlie Sheen said, "I've got five kids, I've got an amazing wife. There is life outside showbusiness. It's been a great run. This is my last contract year." Now, this may be Charlie's attempt to get a raise, but when you break it down, he's probably just being honest.

Not only is Charlie Sheen currently the highest paid actor on television pulling in $825,000 per episode (think about that), but the series has recently gone into syndication, which means he's making even more money every single day. And with over 142 episodes already filmed, he pretty much never has to work again.

However, "Two and a Half Men" is not only TV's most popular comedy but CBS recently renewed it for three more seasons, and I don't think they're interested in losing 33.3 percent of the testosterone from their title with so many seasons still to come.

But maybe Jon Cryer's Emmy win means people will watch the show without Charlie -- would you?
